Disability Care Fund - Taiz
The branch of the Disability Care and Rehabilitation Fund in Taiz Province launched today the distribution of 400 large and small wheelchairs for individuals with mobility and multiple disabilities as part of the second phase, funded by the central office of the Disability Care and Rehabilitation Fund in Sana'a.
During the launch, the Deputy Governor of Taiz, Taha Al-Buraihi, emphasized the state and government's commitment to supporting the disabled community and integrating them into society and the development process.
He expressed hope for further attention to individuals with disabilities from the Disability Care and Rehabilitation Fund, ensuring both official and community support, including from the private sector.
Al-Buraihi noted that the focus on the disabled reflects the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council regarding this important segment of society.
Mohammed Abdullah Othman, the director of the Disability Care and Rehabilitation Fund branch in the province, explained that the distribution of 400 large and small wheelchairs will benefit individuals with mobility and multiple disabilities in Taiz.
He discussed the services provided by the Fund in the province, including daily reception of individuals with disabilities from various districts for completing procedures related to referrals to hospitals, following up on diagnoses and medical reports, and determining the degree of disability and type of impairment according to established procedures.
Othman indicated that a total of 14,328 individuals with disabilities are registered with the branch and have received identification cards. He stressed the urgent need for collaboration with this community, stemming from a sense of responsibility before God, to provide them with care services.
He added that the plan for the Fund branch in the new year includes activating the principle of partnership between the branch and relevant offices to provide essential services and needs for individuals with disabilities. He expressed hope that local authorities and relevant organizations would play their part in operating the Al-Samad Center for Physical Therapy located at the Youth House, which has medical devices and equipment but has been inactive for three years, especially given the need for physical therapy services for individuals with disabilities.
On his part, Shouqi Mghales, the director of the Zakat Authority in Taiz, explained that the authority supports and assists individuals with disabilities by implementing various projects tailored for them.
He stated that the authority is dedicated to providing assistance to the needy, including people with disabilities, in the medical and therapeutic fields. He highlighted that the authority's offices in the districts prioritize the needs of individuals with disabilities based on available resources.
In a speech representing people with disabilities, Basma Abdul Hakim described the wheelchair distribution as a positive step toward meeting some of the needs and requirements of this segment.
She shared the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in various fields and called for everyone to provide services and care for them, especially regarding the provision of assistive devices, medications, physical therapy centers, rehabilitation and training centers, special education institutions, and free seats in universities and institutes for individuals with disabilities, as well as transportation means.
