Prime Minister Urges Support and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities

On Monday, Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi participated in the closing ceremony of the tenth Blind Week, organized by the Yemeni Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Blind with the support of the Disability Care Fund.

In his speech, the Prime Minister praised the events held during this week, emphasizing the importance of highlighting the realities and needs of this group and the necessity of integrating them into society. He noted that the large number of persons with disabilities, estimated at four million and five hundred thousand, requires care, support, and assistance.

Al-Rahwi affirmed the existence of laws that guarantee the rights of persons with disabilities, mentioning efforts to activate the provision that mandates allocating 5% of any new employment opportunities for them. He also added that consideration will be given to the possibility of the Disability Care Fund covering part of the tuition fees for students with disabilities at private universities.

He stressed the responsibility of the private sector to absorb persons with disabilities and the blind, emphasizing the importance of social support for them.

Developments in Palestinian and Lebanese Situations:

Al-Rahwi also addressed developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon, pointing out that the world overlooks the violations against the Palestinian people. He affirmed that Yemen will always stand by its brothers in Gaza and Lebanon until justice is achieved.

Support for Associations and Activities:

During the ceremony, the President of the Association of the Blind, Abdulaziz Al-Balhaj, highlighted the objectives of the tenth Blind Week, which included showcasing the abilities of the blind and raising community awareness about their care. He explained that the week featured a variety of activities, including workshops, cultural evenings, and two sporting competitions.

Visit to the Educational Exhibition:

Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister visited the educational exhibition for the blind, where he reviewed the educational tools based on the "Braille" system that facilitate learning in various subjects.

Conclusion:

Al-Rahwi emphasized the importance of partnership between the government, the private sector, and civil society in supporting persons with disabilities and creating an educational and social environment suitable for them. He wished success to the relevant associations in their future endeavors.
