On the occasion of International Sign Language Day, the Deaf Association in the capital, Sana'a, held a celebratory event that included theatrical performances and awareness-raising speeches about sign language. The event aimed to promote awareness of the importance of sign language and its role in empowering persons with disabilities, specifically the deaf community.

In his speech during the celebration, Dr. Ali Maghli, the Executive Director of the Disability Fund, expressed his gratitude to the Deaf Association for its management practices, particularly in conducting transparent and fair elections. Maghli hoped that other associations and institutions for persons with disabilities would follow suit in improving their legal status and transitioning to institutional building to enhance and improve services for persons with disabilities.

Maghli noted that many associations have not corrected their legal statuses and called on the Ministry of Social Affairs and the National Union of Yemeni Associations for Persons with Disabilities to provide the necessary assistance to rectify these situations and conduct fair and transparent elections in all associations, enabling persons with disabilities to exercise their legal rights.

Regarding operational expenses, Maghli affirmed that the Disability Fund remains committed to serving persons with disabilities, reassuring centers and associations for persons with disabilities that funding is available and approved in the Fund's budget. He explained that delays in funding were due to an assessment conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Union, and the Ministry of Finance, which revealed some shortcomings in the performance of certain associations.

Maghli added that the Fund is working on establishing clear regulations and standards aimed at achieving justice and equality in the distribution of funding, especially in the educational sector. He called on associations and centers for persons with disabilities to collaborate with the Fund to ensure that everyone receives their rights based on the principle of equality.
